Yes! yet another public holiday at hand....

Memories...
i realise I'm actually quite a sensual person... as in stimulated by things that appeal to the senses...
different scents remind me of different things, incense reminds me of my grandmother's house. have you ever stepped into a Catholic church on some celebratory occasions when thousands of cut flowers are placed at the altar as offerings?... i used to visit one of those when i was young... and the strong, almost overpowering fragrance of all the bouquets... now remind me of the childhood i miss...

i don't really have a fantastic or even interesting childhood. was never allowed to play with the neighbors kids at the HDB corridors. mum felt it was inappropriate to make noise and disturb the other neighbors... childhood memories were of the little gallery place when i learnt art from a local painter (now i can't even remember his name). come to think of it, this is probably why i love bumming in places that exude artistic character like galleries, museums and theatres. that places had scents of colours... all kinds of colours - oil paint, water paint... and even the balsam my teacher planted at the door. it was a shabby n simple place, at the bottom of a slope.during theavy rains, the place would be flooded. the kids would have to sit up on tables n high chairs while the adults (my teacher had adult students) would help to clear the water, and we saw little baby frogs (the type you feed arowanas with)... swimming as if struggling for their lives... rite inside the house. i used to think they were cute - don't know when i started hating them...

and of course, scents that remind you of previous loved ones... my grandfather who loved to smoke camel cigarettes, not that i love the smell... but somehow it reminds me of him, we drifted apart after i grew up and stopped visiting him, i used to sit in his lap n teach him English words... when i was mayb five... perfumes scents... that remind me of ex-lovers... nothing much to say about that...
